Jesuit Identity

The Society of Jesus, a Christian Religious Order founded by St. Ignatius of Loyola in 1540, has been active in the field of education throughout the world since aits origin. In India the Society of Jesus is at presentJesuit Logo responsible for 98 High Schools and 32 Colleges, 10 Technical Schools and 2 Colleges of Education, in which 2,12,000 young people belonging to every social class, community, linguistic group are being educated through the medium of English and nine regional languages. These institutions are part of the Catholic Church’s effort, to share in the country’s educational undertaking.The effort while being particularly responsible towards the Catholic community,has always been at the service of the whole nation.

Jesuit education is inspired by a vision of man drawn from the life and teaching of Jesus Christ, who has always been respected and admired by the people of India. It is also based on the principles of character formation elaborated by Ignatius Loyola. This vision and these principles give Jesuit institutions a specific character and set before their staff and students,ideal of humanism and service towards which they are invited continually to strive

The Jesuit School aims at the integral, personal formation of the young. To accomplish this, special efforts are made to train students:

  • to become mature, spiritually oriented men of character; to strive after excellence in every field
  • to value and judiciously use their freedom
  • to be clear and firm on principles and courageous in action
  • to be unselfish in the service of their fellowmen and
  • to become agents of the much-needed social change in their country

The Jesuit School thus aims at making its own contribution towards a radical transformation of present-day social conditions so that the principles of social justice, equality of opportunity, genuine freedom, respect for religious and moral values enshrined in the Constitution of India, may prevail and the possibility of living a fully human existence may be open before all.

Thus spelling out the qualities of the type of person St. Stanislaus School seeks to form, we could add:A Stanislite is convinced that the value of a person lies more in what he is than what he has.

Realizing that “it is more joyful to give than to receive as Jesus taught, he is a generous person who knows how to give what he has; even more, he known how to give himself in the service of others especially of the under privileged.

  1. He is a noble person who always follows his conscience. He remains unswayed by advantages, promises offers or privileges which might cause him to compromise his sense of duty.
  2. He respects others, looking upon them as persons having rights, not as things to be manipulated to his own advantage.
  3. He is a free man not enslaved by money, because he knows that money is a good servant but a bad master.
  4. He loves and respects his rich Indian cultural heritage, is conscious of his duties as a citizen and takes an active interest in national affairs.
  5. He has a keen sense of Justice; is filled with an inner sense of revulsion for unjust situations and takes positive steps to build a better, more just world.
