Visit to the Bandra Court

On 16th February, the citizenship club boys went for an educational trip to the Bandra Court. The boys had the opportunity to visit the criminal court there. All knowledge and guidance about the different functions of the court was given to them by Advocate Mr. Shane Cardoz.

The boys first went to the court room and learned the role of every member in the court. The Judge, the typist, the lawyer, police inspector and accused all had a specific place to sit on. Next they went to the court room where an actual case hearing was taking place. Mr. Cardoz also took the students to the Bar room, where the advocate sit with their clients and discuss their case. The Advocates were pleased to have us there for an educational visit since Stanislaus was the first school to ever do something like this. St Stanislaus 70th Republic Day Celebrations

On 26th January 2019, St. Stanislaus High School celebrated its 70th Republic Day in a glorious manner. This day is important to every Indian as it was on this day that our constitution came into effect.

We were honoured to have a very important person in our midst on this day as our Chief Guest Lt. Col Stephen D’costa along with his beautiful family graced this occasion with his presence. The programme began with welcoming our Chief Guest in a grand gesture by the NCC, Scouts and RSP boys marching to the rhythm of our school band. Our Britto house captain Master Aaiyaan Chataiwala took the Indian pledge. An inspiring patriotic speech was then given by Master Ayush Tiwari of class 7D. This enlightened the spirit of Republic Day. Our energetic boys performed a thought provoking street play on ‘The Fundamental Rights of India’. Our dance troop came next with their power pact performance dancing away on patriotic theme. We also had a Karate display done by our young stanislites.

Lastly the programme would be incomplete without the address of our Guest to our boys. He shared the stories of this life that inspired him to join the Indian Army. The success of the programme would not be possible without the efforts of the teachers in republic day committee. Therefore this team with the spirit of patriotism stands at the pinnacle of glory at last.

Rest in Peace Lt. General Francis Dias

Eminent Ex-student (1948 batch) Lt  General Francis Dias passed away on Republic Day This was an important day for him because he was conferred three very important awards on this day in the past by the President of India - the Param Vishist Seva Medal (PVSM), the Ati Vishisht Seva medal (AVSM), which he was awarded for distinguished service in counter-insurgency, and the Vir Chakra. He also fought in the 1965 and 1971 Wars. During Operation Cactus Lily, in the erstwhile East Pakistan, he led his battalion to capture Bogra Town on December 14, 1971. This was a strategic victory for the Indian Army and two days later Pakistan surrendered in East Pakistan, and Bangladesh was born. For this he was awarded the Vir Chakra. His Citation said:

"Lieutenant Colonel Francis Tiburtius Dias was commanding a battalion of 11th Gorkha Rifles during the operations against Pakistan in the Eastern Sector. On 12 December 1971, he was ordered to capture a well prepared position held by an enemy infantry battalion. Again, on 13 December, the battalion was assigned the task of capturing two bridges held by the enemy in strength. And finally on 14 December 1971 the battalion was assigned the task of capturing a portion of Bogra Town. Under his leadership, the battalion carried out all the tasks successfully, inflicting heavy casualties on the enemy. After contacting the enemy defences at Mahasthana, he infiltrated between the enemy's forward defended localities, raided the enemy battalion headquarters, and captured the officer commanding along with other officers. He also thwarted enemy efforts to blow up bridges. It was due to him that the battalion contributed to a great extent in clearing Bogra Town and taking a large number of prisoners. Throughout this operation, Lieutenant Colonel Dias displayed gallantry, professional skill and leadership of a high order."
