The birth anniversary of the great poet Kusumagraj is celebrated as Marathi Day. This year on 27th February we, at St. Stanislaus High School celebrated this day with great style. The programme started with a literal bang with the sound of the ‘Marathmola’ drum beats. The chief guest for the day was Fr. Asis and he was warmly welcomed by the students and staff.
The Chief Guest, Principal Sr. Arokia and Vice Principal Fr. Felix, lighted the lamp symbolising the beginning of the programme. During this time, one of our students gave a beautiful rendition of ‘pasaydaan’. After the lighting of the lamp, the comperes shared some important facts about the Marathi language and Marathi day. After that the programme continued with a beautiful group dance performed on a beautiful Marathi song. This was followed by a speech on Marathi Divas. Then three of our students presented the powerful ‘vadh powada’ of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s success in defeating Afzal Khan. This powada captivated us all and was unforgettable! A Marathi elocution contest took place after this, in which children recited different poems and speeches. The winners were declared and felicitated on stage.
Lastly, Fr. Asis gave a beautiful speech on Marathi language - our mother tongue. The programme concluded with the singing of the school anthem.
