On 17th July 2018, our school celebrated Van Mahotsav in the Arupe Hall, to create enthusiasm among students for forest conservation and planting trees.
The programme began with the felicitation of our guest Mr. Marvin Fernandes and his team. Fr Gerard S.J., Tr Anna, Sr. Arockia, the teachers and students who are members of the nature club were partakers of this celebration. A video on the significance of Van Mahostav was presented to all which was then followed by a meaningful song, ‘Na Kaato Mujhe Dukhta Hai’ that highlighted the pain of Mother Earth and nature which is gradually ceasing to exist due to the impetuous attitude of human beings.
Fr Gerard S.J. gave a very inspiring thought on Care for Nature. He agreed that at some point he too did affect nature but he also shed a light on how nature always gave back to him. He encouraged the students to protect the environment in all ways possible. Our guest Mr. Marvin gave a presentation and had a very profound interaction with the boys on the topic. After this, small saplings were planted by our guest Mr. Marvin, Fr Gerard, Tr Anna and the Nature Club committee members. The programme ended with the distribution of saplings to each student with a promise to grow and nurture that plant into a huge one and become nature crusaders.
This celebration was the best way to promote the need for planting and tending of trees to prevent global warming and reduce pollution.
