Meet the 11-year-old boy from Mumbai who composed a coronavirus rap

Some people are using memes and messages to drive home the importance of staying safe in times of coronavirus. And for others, there’s nothing like composing a song to make a point on this. Take Ugandan pop star Bobi Wine who came up with a catchy song to stay home or the Hyderabad-based band ChowRaasta who composed 'Chetuletti Mokkuta'. And joining them is a youngster from Bandra, who has come up with a catchy rap, ‘Go-Go Covid-19’ to underline safety measures on this.

“Everyone loves it, Dad, Mom, my cousins and I had sent it to those in my building, too,” says 11-year-old Mikel Fishery, student of St Stanislaus, Bandra.“I composed the rap to create awareness right at the start of the lockdown. Since then, we have been hearing so much about coronavirus, about the lockdown and how important social distancing is. I thought if people hear a catchy song and remember it, they will remember not to step out as people keep trying to go outside even now,” he says, adding, 'The rap took me just a day to create. I wrote out the words, learnt it and sang it'.

Mikel hopes it will make an impact. “Young people can really make a difference. We all may be confined indoors, but we can still do our bit by conveying the message. My teachers who heard the song said I had a future in music. It was my birthday this month and this song was like a present to me,” he adds.
